Reports indicate that Marcus Rashford is on the verge of completing a permanent transfer from Manchester United to FC Barcelona.
Last summer, Rashford made the switch from Man Utd to Barcelona on a loan basis, which included an option to buy at approximately 30 million euros (£26m).
Barcelona took a calculated chance on Rashford after his impressive resurgence during his loan at Aston Villa, positioning him as a budget-friendly replacement for both Luis Diaz and Nico Williams.
His ability to play multiple positions added to his appeal. This season, Rashford has made a strong impact, delivering ten goals and 13 assists across 34 appearances in all competitions.
This strong performance has elevated Rashford’s likelihood of securing a permanent role at Barcelona; however, the completion of this transfer hinges on FC Barcelona’s ability to secure the necessary funds.
It’s crucial to note Barcelona’s financial constraints and ongoing struggles with player registrations in recent seasons. Complicating matters further is Man Utd’s unwillingness to revisit the terms of Rashford’s loan deal.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano recently emphasized that Manchester United is firm in their demand, stating they will not allow Rashford’s departure for below the £26m figure.
Romano conveyed: “Manchester United expects the €30m option clause to be honored in full. Their stance is clear—you either pay the €30m, or Rashford stays with us.”
“Barcelona holds a position of strength because the player favors their move, but they still need to negotiate terms with Manchester United. The club isn’t inclined to offer any discounts.”
In exciting developments this past Friday, it was revealed that Barcelona is intensifying their efforts to finalize a deal for Rashford, with journalist Matteo Moretto reporting that the transaction is ‘very close.’
Moretto shared on X: ‘Barcelona is nearing the completion of Marcus Rashford’s signing. He has consistently been a priority for both Flick and the club, as discussed in prior reports.’
According to Spanish outlet Sport, Barcelona plans to activate the £26m release clause, reflecting their strong commitment to Rashford.
The report states:
‘FC Barcelona’s dedication to the striker remains robust, and the club intends to fulfill the €30 million release clause to secure Rashford’s services, based on insights from sources close to the Catalan club in recent hours.
‘An agreement is in place with the player, who will likely need to negotiate a salary reduction to comply with LaLiga’s financial fair play regulations, unless Barça identifies alternative methods to create sufficient budgetary space.’
