The U.S. Women’s National Team is set to play Chile in an international friendly on January 27 at Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara, marking their second friendly match after kicking off their January camp. Another match against Paraguay prior to this, scheduled for January 24 just outside Los Angeles, has also been announced.

This match is especially notable, as it marks the first international appearance for the U.S. women at Harder Stadium. The venue holds significant history within the team’s legacy; leading up to the inaugural 1991 World Cup in China, a training camp was conducted at UC-Santa Barbara, where the team played against college squads. That year, they went on to clinch the World Cup title.

U.S. head coach Emma Hayes expressed enthusiasm for this opportunity, stating, “One of the goals of U.S. Soccer is to take our national teams to new markets around the country, and I applaud that. Playing in a city for the first time is not a common occurrence at this point in our history. I know our players will enjoy being in beautiful Santa Barbara, and our staff is very much looking forward to January camp and these matches against two tough South American countries. This is the start of an important year for our team. We’re committed to maximizing every minute we get with the players.”

The preliminary camp kicks off on January 17 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, before the team faces Paraguay there.

The upcoming game against Chile will be the first confrontation between these two teams since the U.S. women achieved a 3-0 victory during the group stage of the 2019 World Cup in France. The Chile match on January 27 will be broadcast live on TBS and HBO Max at 10 p.m. ET, while the match against Paraguay will air on TNT and HBO Max at 5:30 p.m. ET.
