Lionel Messi was seen donning a rare, high-end Rolex watch while observing Inter Miami’s goalless fixture against Cincinnati on Saturday, July 26. The Argentine icon was sidelined due to a one-match suspension after missing the 2025 MLS All-Star Game.
Messi, along with Jordi Alba, opted out of their invitation to join the MLS All-Star roster for the match against the Liga MX All-Stars, which led to their absence in Inter Miami’s league match against the impressive FC Cincinnati.
Without their star player, Javier Mascherano’s team managed only a 0-0 draw, as Messi watched the game from the stands at Chase Stadium. Although he didn’t step onto the pitch, he attracted the camera’s attention with the exquisite watch he sported during the match.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner showcased an ultra-rare and out-of-catalogue Rolex Daytona 126538TRO “Barbie” watch, crafted in 18k yellow gold. This extraordinary timepiece features pink sapphires along with a coordinating pink dial and is valued at approximately $900,000 according to Insane Luxury Life on Instagram (via GOAL). The watch is described as “one of the most elusive and vibrant gem-set models” ever created by Rolex, and it is not available for order through standard channels.
Lionel Messi holds the title of the highest-paid player in MLS, earning around $20.5 million annually, according to a report by ESPN. At 38 years old, he is in the last year of his contract with Inter Miami, and discussions for an extension are currently underway.
Lionel Messi is likely to return for Inter Miami’s next match
After observing his teammates from the stands against FC Cincinnati, Lionel Messi is anticipated to rejoin the squad for Inter Miami’s upcoming match against Atlas FC. The Herons will take on the Liga MX team on Wednesday, July 30, in the opening fixture of the 2025 Leagues Cup at Chase Stadium.
This will mark Javier Mascherano’s squad’s third appearance in the tournament. Messi played a pivotal role in leading Inter Miami to victory in the Leagues Cup in 2023, securing the club’s first-ever trophy just weeks after arriving on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Inter Miami will also face Club Nexaca and Pumas UNAM in Phase One of the 2025 Leagues Cup. The Herons were unable to defend their title last year, exiting in the Round of 16 against the Columbus Crew.
