Mexico continues to dominate in soccer against the United States, achieving a decisive victory.El Tri triumphed over the U.S. with a score of 5-0 in the 2025 Concacaf Boys’ Under-15 Championship, securing back-to-back titles in this tournament.
In the final match held in Alajuela, Costa Rica, every goal for Mexico was netted by players of Mexican-American heritage. Juan Carlos Martínez Jr., who scored twice and was named Best Player, hails from California and is currently a member of the LA Galaxy academy.
The remaining goals were contributed by Paxon Ruffin, a Florida native in the youth ranks of Liga MX’s Monterrey; Da’vian Kimbrough (from Sacramento Republic FC); and Lisandro Torres (LAFC academy). Both Kimbrough and Torres also grew up in California.
In 2023, Kimbrough made headlines by signing with Sacramento at the young age of 13, becoming the youngest professional soccer player in the U.S. According to ESPN, he is considered the youngest professional in any major North American sports league, which includes the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and WNBA.
This year has been remarkable for El Tri and its teams, particularly the senior men’s squad. In March, Mexico captured its first Concacaf Nations League title, defeating Canada and breaking the U.S. men’s national team’s streak in that competition. They followed this success with their 10th Concacaf Gold Cup title in July, besting the USMNT 2-1.
In addition to their Under-15 victory, Mexico clinched the Under-20 Concacaf title on August 5, marking their 14th triumph at that level and their first since 2015. The U.S. had won the previous three tournaments.
As co-hosts of the FIFA 2026 World Cup, along with Canada, it’s exciting to witness the ongoing rivalry and development of talent between these two nations on the soccer field.
