Morgan Rogers is currently one of the most dynamic players in the Premier League, but who shaped his football passion as a young athlete?
The Aston Villa sensation launched his professional journey at the West Brom academy before catching the attention of Manchester City in 2019.
At just 23, he has already established himself as a prominent figure in the Premier League and proudly represents England on the international stage.
In a recent interview with GOAL, Rogers shared his top five all-time favorite players, revealing a lot about his football ideology.
1. Cristiano Ronaldo
When the conversation turns to the Messi-Ronaldo rivalry, Rogers stands squarely behind CR7.
Having grown up in early-2000s England, it’s clear why Ronaldo’s influence was monumental during his formative years.
“Ronaldo [is my favorite] 100%,” Rogers stated.
“Everything he did speaks for itself. His journey was remarkable. He had two distinct phases as a player and dominated both.”
2. Neymar
The “prince who never became king” is how some may describe Neymar.
Few players have matched Neymar’s dazzling dribbling, technical prowess, and football intelligence at his zenith.
“Neymar obviously,” Rogers affirmed.
“The ingenuity he brought to the ball, coupled with his creative freedom, was something special. He played without a care in the world.”
3. Paul Pogba
During his prime, Pogba was undeniably among the most captivating figures in football.
His vision, skillset, and physical presence redefined the modern midfielder.
Even as critics focused on his inconsistencies at Manchester United, his early years in the league showcased his flair.
“I’ll choose Pogba for similar reasons as Neymar,” Rogers elaborated.
“They might not always be the top performers, but I appreciate players who remain unapologetically themselves, even if they fail.”
4. Wayne Rooney
By now, you might sense a recurring theme in Rogers’ choices.
Growing up, it’s evident that he admired Manchester United, and who wouldn’t enjoy watching Rooney light up the pitch?
“Rooney was the standout player for England during my childhood,” Rogers added.
“He embodied the spirit of England football in that era.”
5. Steven Gerrard
While Rogers also mentioned Frank Lampard, he ultimately chose Gerrard as his fifth favorite.
The former Liverpool captain was a crucial player for England and served as an inspiration for many young athletes during the 2000s.
