Tino Livramento faces another significant setback after leaving the pitch with a troubling injury during Newcastle’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Fulham.
This marks a distressing moment for the young England international, who previously dealt with eight weeks on the sidelines due to a knee ligament injury before making his return in early November.
In the 74th minute, Livramento went down, appearing to struggle with yet another issue. The Newcastle physio rushed onto the field, attempting to assess his condition.
The signs pointed toward another knee injury, as the physio examined Livramento’s leg, and his painful reactions were evident.
He slowly got back on his feet, but the look of disappointment on his face as he hobbled off the field was unmistakable. Promising youngster Alex Murphy took his place on the pitch.
This setback is particularly disheartening considering his earlier struggles. He missed ten games while recovering from a knee injury sustained against Arsenal at the end of September.
Due to his absence, he was excluded from the October international break with England. Depending on the severity of this latest injury, it may impact his chances of being selected for Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Knee injuries have plagued Livramento throughout his career. His most significant injury was an ACL tear while at Southampton in 2022, which kept him off the field for a year. Fortunately, the issue against Fulham didn’t seem as severe.
In an unexpected turn for Newcastle, Livramento’s replacement, Lewis Miley, made a significant impact. He scored the winning goal against Fulham, rising to connect with a corner and heading it home in the dying moments of the game, securing a 2-1 victory for the cup holders as they advanced to the semi-finals.
