An agent involved in Viktor Gyokeres’ transfer to Arsenal has refuted allegations that a shooting incident in Stockholm was related to an attempt to extort fees from his £64m transfer.
Gunfire erupted at a semi-detached residence in Huddinge, located south of Stockholm, on Saturday night; fortunately, no injuries were reported.
A Swedish newspaper later stated that local authorities were looking into whether the shooting might be tied to an extortion effort involving the relatives of a football agent regarding the commission from Gyokeres’ transfer from Sporting CP.
The striker’s move to Arsenal established him as the most expensive Swedish player in history, with a portion of his transfer fee possibly allocated to his representative, as is customary during football transfers.
The agent reportedly conveyed on social media his involvement in the transfer but dismissed any suggestion that the events surrounding the deal could have motivated the shooting.
Arsenal has been approached for a comment.
Gyokeres joined Arsenal last month from the Portuguese champions and is set to potentially debut in the Premier League against Manchester United on Saturday, following a successful goal in his final pre-season appearance against Athletic Bilbao.
